A new type of shell and tube heat exchanger was designed for heat recovery in sludge treatment process,compared
with performance of a conventional shell and tube heat exchanger of the same specification. A simplified calculation model of
shell and tube heat exchanger was set up,and FLUENT software was used to simulate the common shell heat exchanger and
the new type heat exchanger,the flow distribution,the distribution of temperature and pressure inside the shell of the two heat
exchangers were got,the simulation result was compared with the experimental data. The experimental and simulated results
showed that new plate type heat exchanger has even temperature distribution,less flow dead zones,high heat transfer
efficiency,and its comprehensive performance was far higher than that of ordinary shell and tube heat exchanger.
