In order to compare and study the application characteristics of AHP and fuzzy evaluation method ( FEM) in landfill
siting,as well as the possibility of combining the two methods,the suitability of four selected landfills ( proposed) in
Guangzhou was evaluated with natural and geographical conditions, geological conditions, engineering geology and
environmental conditions as the evaluation criteria. Xingfeng Landfill Site was determined to be the best ultimately,which
matches with the actual application after the calculation of FEM based on weighting determined by AHP. Through comparision,
the accuracy of FEM in selection of parameters and the quantitative is higher. While AHP is more convenient in the
computation. The result of AHP is better consistent with the actual in judging the applicability of the results. The research
shows that the comprehensive application of the two methods is feasible and can improve the accuracy of evaluation results.
