Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China's "battle against pollution" has continued, and urban point source pollution control has achieved remarkable results. The proportion of urban non-point source pollution load driven by rainfall runoff has increased year by year, and has gradually become an important source of urban water environment pollution load. It induces urban water blackening and water ecological environment deterioration, restricts the continuous improvement of urban water ecological environment quality, and is one of the important manifestations of the contradiction between the rapid process of urbanization and the fine management of cities and towns.


Although the research and engineering practice in urban non-point source pollution control in China started late and there are many problems, China has made great progress in urban non-point source pollution control by tackling key scientific and technological tasks, such as the Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major Projects and the National Key Research and Development Plan in recent years, as well as urban black and smelly water body renovation and sponge city construction.


In order to further improve the level of science and technology in the field of urban non-point source pollution control in China, systematically master the advanced concepts, scientific methods, key technologies, typical engineering cases and future development direction of urban non-point source pollution control, provide better service to improve the level of urban environmental infrastructure construction, promote urban and rural human settlements environmental remediation, eliminate urban black and odorous water bodies and control the return of urban water bodies, and to meet the major national scientific and technological needs of building a beautiful China, Environmental Engineering plans to publish a special topic of "Urban Non-point Source Pollution Control Technology and Engineering" in the 12th issue of 2023, and Professor Sun Dezhi of Beijing Forestry University will be specially invited as the chief editor. We sincerely invite global experts, scholars, and technical personnel to actively contribute.


Professor Sun Dezhi

Sun Dezhi, professor of Beijing Forestry University, director of Beijing Key Laboratory of Source Control of Polluted Water, and director of Beijing Education Commission Engineering Research Center of Source Control and Ecological Restoration of Polluted Water. He is also a member of the expert group of the National Joint Research Center for Ecological Protection and Restoration of Yangtze River, a member of the expert group of the National Joint Research Center for Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development of Yellow River Basin, and the vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Sludge Alliance. He has been awarded the honorary titles of Special Allowance of the State Council Government, Outstanding Contributing Talent to Science and Technology in Beijing, and Advanced Individual with Outstanding Contribution to National Ecological Construction. He has received 8 provincial and ministerial awards, 35 invention patents, published 11 books and more than 300 papers, and trained 50 doctors and 120 masters.
